탈리아홈 디렉터의 이야기 A Story from the Director of Talia Home 저는 인테리어 디자이너로 일하며 현장에서는 먼지 속에서 일을 하고, 집에서는 두 마리 고양이와 함께 살아가는 삶을 이어왔습니다. 퇴근 후 지친 몸으로 집안일에 점점 손이 가지 않다 보니, 고양이 털과 먼지가 자연스럽게 일상의 일부가 되어 있었습니다. 집을 깨끗하고 아름답게 유지하는 일은 언제나 쉽지 않은 숙제였어요. 그중에서도 수건은 가장 큰 고민거리 중 하나였습니다. 세수를 하고 얼굴을 닦을 때마다 수건에 붙은 먼지와 고양이 털이 얼굴에 남곤 했으니까요. 어느 날, 제가 다니던 요가 스튜디오에서 땀을 닦을 때 사용할 작은 소창수건을 주셨어요. 몇 번 사용해 보니 너무 부드럽고 먼지가 붙지 않는 게 신기했어요. ‘이렇게 좋은 걸 왜 이제야 알았을까?’라는 생각이 들었죠. 그 이후로 소창에 대해 검색해보게 되었습니다. 소창은 강화도에서 우리나라 전통방식으로 만들어지는 원단으로 통기성이 뛰어나고 흡수력이 좋아 오래전부터 사용된 원단이라는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 특히 사용할수록 부드러워지고 먼지가 잘 묻지 않아 위생적으로도 뛰어났어요. 저는 이 소창이라는 원단에 더욱 매력을 느끼게 되었습니다. 패션 디자인을 전공했던 저는 강화도에서 생산된 소창 원단을 구매해 집에서 직접 수건을 만들어 사용하기 시작했어요. 맨 처음에는 삶은 후에 써야된다는 점이 조금은 번거롭게 느껴졌지만, 먼지가 거의 없고 평소에 쓰던 일반 테리수건과는 다르게 오래 사용해도 여전히 부드러운 이 수건은 이제 제게 없어선 안 될 생활 필수템이 되었습니다. 소창은 사용하다 보니 활용범위가 더욱 넓어졌어요. 먼지가 잘 묻지 않다보니 주방에서는 접시를 닦거나 채소, 과일을 닦을 때도 정말 유용했고, 베개 커버로 사용하니 매일 세탁할 수 없는 베개를 깔끔하게 유지할 수 있었습니다. 그렇게 제 일상은 조금씩 달라지기 시작했어요. 작은 변화들이 쌓이면서, 집이 더 편안하고 정돈된 공간으로 변하는걸 느꼈어요. 매일 사용하는 물건이지만, 더 건강하고 깨끗하게, 그리고 아름답게 사용할 수 있다면 얼마나 좋을까요? 저는 집이 단순히 사는 공간이 아니라, 나만의 취향과 따뜻한 배려가 담긴 곳이어야 한다고 믿습니다. 그래서 탈리아홈을 시작하게됐어요. 탈리아홈은 제 고민과 작은 깨달음에서 시작된 브랜드입니다. 여러분의 집도 조금 더 따뜻하고 아름다워질 수 있길 바라며, 탈리아홈을 소개합니다. I have worked as an interior designer, spending my days surrounded by dust at job sites, and coming home to share my life with two cats. After long, tiring days at work, I often found myself neglecting housework, and soon, cat hair and dust simply became a part of my everyday life. Keeping my home clean and beautiful always felt like a difficult task. Among all, towels were my biggest concern. Every time I washed my face, I would find cat hair and dust clinging to the towel, ending up on my skin. One day, at the yoga studio I attended, I was given a small sochang towel to use during practice. After just a few uses, I was amazed by how soft it felt and how little dust it attracted. I couldn’t help but wonder, “Why didn’t I know about this sooner?” Curious, I began to learn more about sochang. I discovered that it is a traditional Korean cotton fabric, still produced in the old ways in Ganghwa. Highly breathable and absorbent, sochang has been cherished for generations. What fascinated me most was how the fabric becomes softer and more comfortable the more it is used and washed, all while staying remarkably dust-free and hygienic. I found myself deeply drawn to the beauty of this material. With a background in fashion design, I decided to purchase sochang fabric directly from Ganghwa and began making towels at home for my own use. At first, the process of boiling the fabric before use felt like a bit of a hassle. But soon, I realized that this towel, unlike typical terry towels, remained soft and durable even after long use. It quickly became an essential part of my daily routine. As I continued using sochang, I discovered even more ways to bring it into my life. Thanks to its dust-resistant quality, it proved useful not only as a towel but also for drying dishes, wiping vegetables and fruits, and as a pillow cover to keep bedding fresh and clean between washes. Little by little, my everyday life began to shift. These small changes added up, and I found my home becoming a more comfortable and well-organized space. How wonderful it would be if the things we use daily could be not only functional, but also healthier, cleaner, and more beautiful. I believe that a home is more than just a place to live. It should reflect care, thoughtful choices, and a personal sense of taste. This belief became the reason I started Talia Home.
